Every couple of years it seems like another wave of stories emerge claiming picking your nose is a major causal factor in the onset of Alzheimer’s disease. In 2024 it happened yet again, with a torrent of news headlines loudly declaring “scary evidence” had been found showing Alzheimer’s disease was linked with a bit of finger-based nasal exploration. So where does this weird story come from and why is it, according to several neuroscientists New Atlas contacted, “extremely unlikely.”
