The Walking Dead fans were excited for The Ones Who Live, a limited series following popular characters Rick and Michonne. But with season 1 done and dusted, is there hope to see the couple for another instalment?
Unfortunately, the fate of the series is up in the air. While the powers that be like to keep the door open for future stories set in the universe, the two got a pretty neat ending.
Even so, the original series premiered back in 2010, and interest in the zombie-infested post-apocalyptic world hasn’t died down yet. Never say never.
The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live Season 2 Release Date
A The Walking Dead spin-off, The Ones Who Live centres on Rick and Michonne, two beloved characters from the original series. Rick was thought to have perished in the bridge explosion in season 9, but fans could see that he was rescued by Jadis.
Michonne, who was carrying his child, was devastated by the loss until she discovered that he might still be alive and went looking for him in season 10. The Ones Who Live shows what happens next, with Rick and Michonne reuniting after years apart and fighting to get a resemblance of a happy ending.
Over the course of six episodes, viewers could reconnect with the two and follow their epic love story. The fact that the series was well-received gave the audience hope that it might continue, but there’s been no word about a potential season 2 just yet.
That said, show-runner Scott M. Gimple isn’t ruling it out. “You never know, but right now there’s nothing on the table, except my little fan fictions I write in the evening for myself,” he said when asked about new episodes.
Whether or not the show will come back, fans of The Walking Dead haven’t run out of content. Spin-offs Daryl Dixon and Dead City are both set to return. Even if The Ones Who Live doesn’t continue, there might still be Rick and Michonne cameos in their future.
